Tips to Prep for a Wine and Cheese Party
Whether you're a wine and cheese connoisseur or a total newbie, hosting a party for your new neighbors and friends after searching through Saint Cloud homes for sale and Coon Rapids homes for sale is the perfect way to introduce yourself. To help you get started, we'll share some of our favorite wine and cheese party tips.
- Set Up Your Entire Home
Since it can get more than a bit chilly outside this time of year, you'll need to host the party indoors. Select a large enough room to accommodate at least a few tables in addition to everyone on your guest list. Whether you move the furniture to another room or leave it in place for people to sit and relax is up to you. Then, straighten up all the rooms leading to the newly minted "wine and cheese" room to give the festivities a good flow as guests enter. - Send Online Invitations
Wine and cheese parties can be of any size, at least theoretically, but most consist of 10-15 people. You may want to add a few extra to make sure you have enough people who send back an RSVP. The best way to send invitations these days is through "evite" or a social media platform such as Facebook, which allows you to create an event and send invitations from there. - Pick Up Different Wines
First off, select three or four different wines for the event. Purchase two bottles of each wine for every 10 people who will be attending. This will allow every person to have two to three ounces per wine, plus a full glass afterward. You may have some left, but it's always best to have too much wine than too little. - Get a Variety of Cheeses
Generally, planning two to three ounces of cheese per guest will ensure you have plenty, but it also depends on what else you plan to serve. We'd also suggest picking up six types of cheeses, which would include soft, semi-soft, semi-hard, firm, aged, and milk types. If you're unsure which cheeses are best from each category, ask someone at your local deli or cheese shop for assistance. - Add in Other Favorites
In addition to cheese, make sure that you've selected other favorites as the main course and snacks. Start by picking up a few meats, such as cured salami, prosciutto, capicola ham, etc. Other favorites include a variety of crackers (an absolute must), nuts, dried fruit, olives, honey and jam, sliced fruits, pickled vegetables, dips, etc. - Three Glasses Per Person
Each person will require three glasses: one each for white wine, red wine, and water. You'll start each person off with a small amount of each wine so they can have a taste before being offered a full glass. Remember that a wine and cheese party isn't typically the same as a wine-tasting event, so you probably won't need a dump bucket. Though, it never hurts to have one handy if some guests prefer to taste rather than consume. - Don't Try to Be an Expert
Despite what Mr. Wonderful from Shark Tank may want everyone to believe, you don't need to be a wine expert to enjoy a wine and cheese party. In fact, discovering favorite tastes along with your guests can be a great experience. That said, if you want to hire a sommelier for the event to give it a little panache, please do.
